'Wonder Woman' gets an origin story in new trailer

Although Wonder Woman appeared fully formed in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, her upcoming solo film will travel back a century to reveal exactly how she became the badass warrior we know and love.

The new trailer that dropped over the weekend teases her childhood and early training among the Amazons, as well as her first interaction with mankind during one of our ugliest chapters, World War I.

Somehow, this formative experience makes her decide to stick around long enough to cameo in Batman v Superman and return in this fall's Justice League. Not that we're complaining – Wonder Woman looks like just the ray of light that the grim and gritty DC universe needs right now.

Wonder Woman is in theaters June 2.
