LONDON -- Remember those simple, easy-to-understand books you used to read as a kid? The ones that broke down life's little problems into easily manageable chunks?

Well now imagine what those books would be like if they were made for adults and you'll have a pretty good idea of what the new Ladybird series has in store.

Although they traditionally publish children's books, Ladybird is releasing eight tongue-in-cheek advice books for adults this November, dealing with everything from dating and mid-life crises to husbands and sheds.

The series is written by Joel Morris and Jason Hazeley, who have previously written for a number of different British TV shows (including Miranda, The Armstrong and Miller Show, and Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe).

Speaking of Charlie Brooker, he's given the series a glowing review. "This is such a good idea I'm currently experiencing all the physical sensations of anger because I didn't think of it, whereas Jason and Joel did, the shits," he was quoted as saying in a press release sent by Ladybird to Mashable.

Elsewhere, Simpsons writer Josh Weinstein described them as "Laugh out loud hilarious" and actor/director Richard Ayoade said the books are "Very, very funny".

Many Brits will remember the Ladybird books -- which feature a recognisably distinct style of illustration -- from their childhoods. It's this shared memory that Morris and Hazeley aim to evoke (and parody) with their new series.

"It's like being allowed to mess about with a national treasure," Morris told The Independent. "It's like repainting Saint Paul's."

Guides to Dating, The Hipster, The Husband, The Wife, Mindfulness, The Hangover, The Mid-life Crisis, and The Shed will all be available from Ladybird on tNov. 19.
