The Art of Rap app for Android and iPhone provides beats for which rappers can use with their own lyrics. Two preloaded beats are free, but users can pay 99 cents for classic tracks from 2Pac, Cypress Hill, MC Lyte and Snoop Dogg.

Artists can then tweak their recordings and publicly release them on the app or on the film's website.

"With the advent of social media, many artists have been discovered online and this provides a platform to discover another potential superstar," app maker PureSolo's CEO David Kaplan told Mashable.

"Through the app they can not only record their own unique style, but also rate other raps, with the best ones rising up the popular recordings tab to give those rappers some credibility within the community."
