Australian footballer Harley Bennell has a big problem on his hands.
The 22-year-old Gold Coast Suns player has been photographed next to an alcoholic drink of the worst kind. Most publications Thursday morning were distracted by the white lines of powder Bennell is apparently cutting up on a table in the image, but the people of Australia were more disgusted by his choice of beverage.
The front page of the Herald Sun, the publication that obtained the photos, screamed: "CAUGHT IN THE ACT." Its website read: "No hiding the awful truth."
They were right.
According to commentators, the apparent lines of speed were not Bennell's undoing. It is the UDL can -- an Australian pre-mixed alcoholic beverage normally seen at trashy parties held by underage teens -- that has left his reputation irreparably damaged.
Judging by the UDL, Harley Bennell is in a bad place right now. That's literally their worst flavour. #prayforharley pic.twitter.com/DvnjhSit0D— Barry Dawson (@drunk_logic) July 1, 2015
The photos of Harley Bennell are further proof of a worrying culture of UDL use at the Suns. pic.twitter.com/KbEgDK55YV— Titus O'Reily (@TitusOReily) July 1, 2015
What's more concerning about the Harley Bennell photo is that he's drinking a UDL. That should be an automatic 3 week suspension— Tone Loc (@Sgt_Morris) July 1, 2015
The most damning thing to emerge from the Harley Bennell photo scandal is undoubtedly the revelation that he's a grown man who drinks UDL's— Heath Bennetts (@riffwithbiff) July 1, 2015
@michaelrcotton personally the only offensive thing I can see in the Harley Bennell photo is the UDL can. You are on 400k/y, buy good stuff.— K Hutch (@72nivek) July 2, 2015

The Harley Bennell photo is confronting, can't believe he was drinking a UDL. #AFL— Dan (@Fisherking79) July 1, 2015
I don't know what's worse Harley Bennell doing lines of speed or drinking a UDL #afl #goldcoast— Jason Braithwaite (@Braithwaite16) July 1, 2015
The incident allegedly occurred after a strip club session in Tasmania in 2013. He was there with a group of men and women who apparently encouraged the poor life choice.
A spokesperson from the Gold Coast Suns said in a statement they have genuine concerns for his welfare. "We can’t underestimate the toll this could have and has had on his wellbeing. That remains our absolute focus at this time."
At least someone understands the true cost drinking a UDL can have on your life.
