LONDON -- Less than a week after being caught on video swearing at a flight attendant, Azealia Banks has drummed up more controversy after she launched into an explosive Twitter rant against the gay community on Sunday, before getting into an argument with Eastenders actor Alison Newman.
It started when Newman responded to a tweet by actor Charlie Condou, in which he quoted a tweet from Banks which has since been deleted.
@Charliecondou @AZEALIABANKS Definitely deleted. What an unfathomable idiot.— Alison Newman (@alisonnewman) September 27, 2015
Banks responded by insulting Newman's physical appearance.
@alisonnewman Botox those frown lines. Juvederm those lips. Get a tan. YIKES!— AZEALIABANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) September 27, 2015
Newman then shared Banks' tweet and responded to her comments.
I didn't know who this woman was but on responding to the wonderful @Charliecondou I received this. She's charming! https://t.co/79wzTnmHhM— Alison Newman (@alisonnewman) September 27, 2015
And for the record. I'm 47 yrs old. I love my frown lines & my skinny lips. Most of my wrinkles are from laughing. And Botox is poison.— Alison Newman (@alisonnewman) September 27, 2015
Meanwhile, a third party intervened to defend Newman and called Banks a "c*nt", which caused things to escalate.
@AZEALIABANKS @finkowska Wow. Awful.— Alison Newman (@alisonnewman) September 27, 2015
At this point Banks launched into an angry rant, attempting to defend the language she'd used by claiming that members of the gay community use derogatory language against her.
@alisonnewman you're confused. You've allowed gay men to convince you that u owe them respect while they refer to you as fish and cunt.— AZEALIABANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) September 27, 2015
@alisonnewman if gay men are allowed to take words originally designed to hurt women and make them colloquial, then why can't I ?— AZEALIABANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) September 27, 2015
@alisonnewman are their feelings more important than ours? Why do they deserve respect that they don't give us?— AZEALIABANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) September 27, 2015
@AZEALIABANKS Everyone's feelings are the same. What's your problem?— Alison Newman (@alisonnewman) September 27, 2015
@alisonnewman I don't have one. At all. The gay community is asking me for respect that they are not willing to reciprocate. Point blank— AZEALIABANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) September 27, 2015
@alisonnewman If I have to stop using derogatory language to refer to gay men. Then they must give me the same courtesy. Simple.— AZEALIABANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) September 27, 2015
@AZEALIABANKS @finkowska They don't.— Alison Newman (@alisonnewman) September 27, 2015
@alisonnewman @finkowska have you ever seen an episode of rupaul drag race? Or been the only girl at the gay bar? THEY DO.— AZEALIABANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) September 27, 2015
@alisonnewman @finkowska "she's so slutty" "oh yeah she's a hoe" "yaaaas bitch" "fucking cunt" the list in endless.— AZEALIABANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) September 27, 2015
Banks continued her Twitter tirade throughout Sunday night.
If I am to be a part of an LGBT community I want to be in it with people who aren't so weak or so easily moved ya know.— AZEALIABANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) September 28, 2015
Words are not tangible things. You all CHOSE to get upset. Remember... Offense is only TAKEN, it is never given.— AZEALIABANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) September 28, 2015
