Benedict Cumberbatch received a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) honor from the Queen on Tuesday for his services to the performing arts and to charity.
The 39-year-old Sherlock actor said it was "fantastic" and "nerve-wracking" to meet the Queen.

Cumberbatch has been raising money and awareness over the plight of Syrian refugees. He has recorded a video for charity Save the Children, and has been collecting money after his recent performances as the title role in Hamlet at the Barbican Theatre in London.
The CBE ranks above Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) -- which Cumberbatch's friend and onetime Oscar opponent Eddie Redmayne was appointed this summer for his services to drama.
Cumberbatch was up for Best Actor at the Academy Awards earlier this year for his portrayal of computer scientist Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, but ended up losing to Redmayne's performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
Cumberbatch is currently filming the Marvel film Dr. Strange in Nepal, but he plans on taking a break from acting next year to do more charity work.
