By and large, the arrival of Caitlyn Jenner was treated with admirable sensitivity by the media Monday.

Jenner's bravery, clear to anyone who has been following her story and watched last month's interview, was highlighted (not least with a forthcoming ESPN award). Anchors and reporters took care to change their pronouns. Offensive, ignorant jokes were avoided.

Over at the Fox News networks? Not so much.

Witness anchor Neil Cavuto and reporter Dagen McDowell discussing the news of Jenner's appearance on Fox Business, preserved for posterity in the video above. (Technically Fox Business is a sister network to Fox News, but it's something of a revolving door -- Cavuto and McDowell appear regularly on both channels).

"What the hell is going on?" Cavuto yells upon seeing the Vanity Fair cover. "Fall of Rome," he adds, evidently drawing a connection between a transgender person coming out and the decline of the Roman Empire. He then jokingly refers to his next male guest by a female name.

McDowell, speaking with apparent distaste, repeatedly uses the pronoun "he" to refer to Caitlyn Jenner -- a big no-no, according to the clear advice transgender groups have been sending media organizations for weeks. McDowell then draws attention to the unusual spelling of Caitlyn's name, and compares her outfit to that of a Playboy bunny.
