Two days after Céline Dion's husband René Angélil died, it has emerged that her brother, Daniel Dion, also lost his battle with cancer.

In a statement posted Saturday on the Canadian singer's website and Facebook page, it was revealed that her older brother died in Québec at 59, surrounded by his family.

"His final days were spent in the care of the staff and volunteers at the palliative care centre Maison Adhémar-Dion," it read. "The family requests that in honour of their brother’s memory, their privacy be respected in this time of grief."

According to Le Journal de Montréal, Daniel Dion was the eighth of 14 children. He was also a musician, his sister Claudette Dion told the newspaper. "What made him happiest was to make music. He had a voice of nightingale," she said.

René Angélil died of cancer in Las Vegas Thursday at the age of 73. He and Dion had been married for 22 years.
