A lost puppy that nearly died after being frozen to the ground is safe in the hands of kind caretakers, thanks to the kindness of a Tennessee couple.

April Dickerson of Greenbrier, Tennessee told local news site Smokey Barn News that her husband Jason discovered the puppy frozen to the ground outside their home on Tuesday morning. The couple managed to gently melt the ice under the dog, and rescue it from the cold.

Though the pup is missing a small patch of fur from its hindquarters, Dickerson said that the dog appears to be in good shape. She suspects the dog might be abandoned, though she hasn't ruled out the possibility that it's been separated from its owner.

"We have dogs and cats dropped off here all the time, the dog catcher knows our street well," she told Smokey Barn News.

Dickerson is in the process of finding a good home for the dog and has posted his photo on a local lost and found Facebook page for animals.

"I have no idea what breed she is, but we cannot keep her unfortunately. We’re trying to find her a good forever home. If no one claimed her or we can’t find her a GOOD forever home, we will be taking her to a No-kill Rescue Shelter,” she said.
