LONDON -- David Bowie's eldest child, Duncan Jones, told his father he was about to become a grandfather at Christmas last year.

In a touching tweet Wednesday night, the film director revealed the card he made for Bowie, featuring an illustration of an unborn child and the words "I'm waiting," over the holidays.

"1 month since dad died today," Jones wrote Wednesday evening. "Made this card for him at Christmas. Due in June. Circle of life. Love you, granddad."

Duncan Jones, who is the only child from the singer's marriage to first wife Angie, is expecting the baby with his partner, photographer Rodene Ronquillo.

She followed up his tweet with an announcement of her own, saying, "Shame on those of you who just thought I was really fat and didn't say anything."

David Bowie's widow Iman was among the first to offer her congratulations to the couple.

David Bowie died of cancer aged 69 on Jan. 10. He left his £100 million ($144.6 million) fortune to Iman and his two children, Duncan from first wife Angie and Alexandria from second wife Iman. He wanted his ashes scattered in Bali in a Buddhist ritual.

Duncan Jones and Rodene Ronquillo's child would have been his first grandchild.
