Tom Cruise's 'Edge of Tomorrow' Is a Bloodier 'Groundhog Day'

Like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, Tom Cruise as officer Bill Cage in the upcoming sci-fi movie Edge of Tomorrow is reliving one hell of a day over and over again. Unlike Groundhog Day, this action thriller is a bloody and explosive time loop.

In the futuristic flick's first trailer (above), Lt. Col. Cage is thrust into combat for the first time in his military career when aliens attack Earth. Within minutes of entering battle, he dies.

But being in a mysterious time loop, he tries to fight the aliens differently each time he is resurrected -- with more force thanks to skills he's learning from Special Forces solider Rita Vrataski (played by Emily Blunt).

The Doug Liman-directed film from Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures, debuts June 6. Warner Bros. released this movie poster alongside the trailer on Wednesday:
