Thousands of protesters took to the streets of New York City on Wednesday night, after a grand jury decided not to indict white police officer Daniel Pantaleo in the chokehold death of Eric Garner.
Outraged over what they say was a lack of justice in the killing of an unarmed black man by police, protesters gathered in different parts of the city. They shut down the West Side Highway, Brooklyn Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel and major thoroughfares.
One group attempted to march to the tree-lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center, but due to heavy police presence, only a handful of people made it inside. Other protesters continued to march in the streets, effectively blocking traffic in Midtown for several hours.
Police reportedly made dozens of arrests on Wednesday.
