Facebook tested a new mobile ad unit earlier this year that was designed to let app developers promote themselves. Now, Facebook is making it available to all developers.
The company first introduced the unit in August and is now bringing it out of beta after claiming success with a handful of partners including Fab, Kabam, Big Fish and TinyCo. The latter in particular saw 50% higher click-through rates and "significantly higher" conversion rates vs. other mobile channels, as well as an increase in engagement, according to a blog post Wednesday from Facebook software engineer Vijaye Raji.
The ad units are designed to drive users to new apps. If a user clicks on an ad and they don’t have the app already, they’ll be directed to the App Store or Google Play to download it.Facebook has set up an automated page for those looking to create the ads as well as the analytics dashboard below:
