LONDON -- Bauer Media said Tuesday that publication of controversial British men's interest magazines FHM and Zoo is to be suspended after 20 and 11 years in circulation, respectively.

In a statement on its website, Bauer Media explains that "young men’s media habits have continually moved towards mobile and social."

Sales for both Zoo and FHM have experienced a rapid decline, the Guardian reported, with the first six months of 2015 seeing a respective 12% and 20% decrease on the previous year.

Zoo's Australian counterpart, Zoo Weekly, published its final issue in October of this year following its removal from supermarket chain Coles' shelves, whilst IPC Media (now Time Inc. UK) ceased publication of Zoo rival Nuts in March 2014.

The objectification of women in media has come under increased fire in recent years, with organisations like UK Feminista campaigning to #losetheladsmags.

Bauer Media's decision also follows the steady decline in print media that saw British music publication NME make the move to distributing free, weekly copies in a bid to increase readership earlier this year.
