Just because it's 2016 doesn't mean you can't have a terrifying medieval contraption attached to your vagina.

In Padua, Italy, this weekend, a woman (whose name has been kept private) showed up at her local fire station asking for help, according to Italian newspaper Il Matino di Padova. She was wearing a chastity belt, she calmly explained, and recently lost the key. Would those firefighters be so kind as to remove it?

While firefighters initially suspected sexual violence, the woman explained that she wore the belt to prevent herself from entering sexual relationships. She only came to the firefighters because she wanted to take it off and had run out of options.

The firefighters, Il Matino di Padova reports, were initially stunned but quickly broke the lock.

Chastity belts, often made of leather and iron, were most commonly used in the 19th century to safeguard a woman's sexuality. While the belts theoretically protected women from sexual assault, they were most commonly used to prevent them from masturbating.

It is unclear what, exactly, this woman's motives were, but thanks to the firefighters' hard work, she is now completely free to roam.
