The critically acclaimed but ratings-poor Hannibal broadcast its series finale on Saturday, giving the artistic series a fitting end, but leaving hardcore fans of the show wanting more.

On Sunday, lead actor Mads Mikkelsen, who played role of Hannibal, decided to say goodbye to fans with a decidedly lighthearted departure from his usual grim delivery.

Posting a video on YouTube, via the De Laurentiis Company (the production company behind the show), Mikkelsen uses a Hannibal doll to do most of his talking to "Fannibals." Toward the end of the video, in which he thanks fans for watching, Mikkelsen stares into the camera and, assuming his haunting Hannibal stare, hints that his character might one day return.

Since NBC's decision to cancel the show, rumors about its future have circulated for weeks, with some hoping it might continue on alternative distribution platforms like Netflix or Amazon.

However, so far, no deal has been announced. So, for now, Fannibals will have to make due with Mikkelsen's sign-off, which, despite its sugary message, has all the spine-tingling undertones of a therapy session between Hannibal and his foil, Will Graham.

In other words, it's the perfect ending for any true fan of the show.
