Tributes for actor Alan Rickman, who died Thursday, have been pouring in all day on social media.
J.K. Rowling, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and the rest of the Harry Potter cast have been sharing their memories of the actor, and a vast number of celebrities have also taken to Twitter and Instagram to pay tribute to him.
Sir Ian McKellen's personal tribute is a lengthy, poignant account of a man he clearly admired greatly as both a colleague and a friend.
ALAN RICKMAN (1946-2016) There is so much that is matchless to remember about Alan Rickman. pic.twitter.com/x6cRB4VIIS— Ian McKellen (@IanMcKellen) January 14, 2016
"There is so much that is matchless to remember about Alan Rickman," begins McKellen, before launching into an account of how Rickman welcomed and stood up for him on the set of Rasputin.
"Behind his starry insouciance and careless elegance, behind that mournful face, which was just as beautiful when wracked with mirth, there was a super-active spirit, questioning and achieving, a super-hero, unassuming but deadly effective."
