Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida and likely 2016 presidential candidate, has apologized for listing his race as "Hispanic" on a 2009 voter-registration application obtained by the New York Times.

Jeb, a son of President George H.W. Bush and younger brother of President George W. Bush, was born in Texas and married a Mexican-born woman, Columba, in 1974. While he speaks Spanish and spent some time in Mexico and Venezuela in his youth, he is not Hispanic -- despite what he marked off.

The red arrow, which we added, shows where it reads "Hispanic."

Bush apologized on Twitter on Monday, in response to a tweet from his son.

My mistake! Don’t think I’ve fooled anyone! RT @JebBushJr LOL - come on dad, think you checked the wrong box #HonoraryLatino— Jeb Bush (@JebBush) April 6, 2015

A Bush spokeswoman, Kristy Cambell, told Reuters that it was unclear how the mistake happened.

"The governor's family certainly got a good laugh out of it," Campbell said. "He is not Hispanic."
