First came the Salahis. Then there were the Cartagena prostitutes. Now a White House intruder managed to run in the front door, carrying a serrated knife, before he was tackled by scrambling Secret Service agents.

After a few high-profile mishaps, members of Congress want to know what, exactly, is going on at the Secret Service.

Its director, Julia Pierson, who also happens to be the first woman to hold that post, faced the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Tuesday morning for a blistering hearing.

"It is clear that our security plan was not executed properly" during the White House breach on Sept. 19, Pierson said at Tuesday's hearing. "I take full responsibility," she said. "What happened is unacceptable and it will never happen again."

Here's how the public part of the hearing played out. It was scheduled to continue later Tuesday behind closed doors.
