Lunar new year (which this year celebrates the year of the monkey) comes Feb. 8.

A feast with foods symbolizing luck and prosperity is part of a traditional Chinese celebration. And that feast traditionally includes dumplings.

New York City food writer Yvo Sin tells Mashable, "Dumplings represent money/prosperity, as they look like taels, the money of olden China."
