Jaw-dropping is just one of the words that could be used to describe the fashion worn by celebrities, designers and fashion elite at the annual Costume Institute Gala.

The event, which started in 1948, marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s fashion show which, this year, is a tribute to designer Charles James in a show titled "Beyond Fashion."

It is known by many as the most exclusive fashion event of the year. Individual tickets can cost up to $25,000 with corporations buying tables from $75,000 to $250,000. In 2011, the gala raised $10 million, according to The Huffington Post. Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, has been the chair of the gala, which raises money for the Institute, since 1995.
