Rickman played teacher Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film series and Hans Gruber in Die Hard -- two legendary, idiosyncratic antagonists that helped define his memorable career.

The New Yorker's cartoon is one of many tributes that have poured in for the British actor in the last 24 hours. The cast of Harry Potter discussed their memories of Rickman online, celebrities paid tribute on social media, and fans have also created a miniature memorial at Platform 9 3/4 in King's Cross, London.
