Peach, a new social app, is a new hotness. At least for today.
Dubbed "a fun, simple way to keep up with friends and be yourself," the app is kind of like a cross between Twitter and Slack. After you create an account and a handle and add some friends, you view a stream of updates from the people you're connected with. From the home screen, it looks like a slew of tweets or status updates, though tapping into a friend's post reveals much more.
The ingenious part of the app is that it has built in "Magic Words" that let you add in fun information.
For instance, type in "gif" and a GIF search button pops up that will let you search for a GIF, using Giphy's API. Once you search, you can cycle through GIF selections by tapping on arrow buttons. Once you find the GIF you want, insert it into your feed.
Other Magic Words include:
here -- offers current location
shout -- say stuff with big words
draw -- draw stuff
goodmorning -- say good morning
goodnight -- say good night
song -- identifies a song playing with your phone's microphone, a la Shazam
rate -- rate something one to five stars
battery -- shares your battery charge %
weather -- shares the current weather
move -- adds movement, steps, miles, etc.
events -- the number of events on your calendar today
safari -- opens a browser to search for a link
dice -- rolls the dice
time -- adds the current time
date -- adds the current date
movie -- adds in a movie, using themoviedb.org
tv -- adds a TV show
game -- adds a video game
book -- adds a book
Additionally, if you have an iPhone 6S, you can use 3D Touch to unlock extra shortcuts. Hold down on a status from your home feed to preview an update or hold down on the app icon to get shortcuts from your home screen.
