Perry is currently the most-followed female Twitter user with 40.6 million followers. In May, she tweeted about the music video for Bareilles' "Brave."
I heart you @Sarabareilles : http://t.co/6BGGzoAibn— Katy Perry (@katyperry) May 16, 2013
When Perry's "Roar" first appeared online, complaints began to roll in. Bareilles tweeted the following:
All love, everybody. All love. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤— Sara Bareilles (@SaraBareilles) August 10, 2013
"Roar" (listen below) is the lead single from Perry's forthcoming fourth studio album, Prism, co-penned by Perry, Max Martin, Bonnie McKee, Henry Walter and Lukasz Gottwald. Fun's Jack Antonoff helped to write "Brave" from Bareilles' album The Blessed Unrest.
Other listeners believe "Roar" sounds more like "Hard Knock Life" from the musical Annie.
Slightly disappointed with new Katy Perry single "Roar." Intro sounds too much like "Hard Knock Life" for my liking as well...— Emma (@EmmaCharlotteP) August 12, 2013
WAIT A MINUTE. Katy Perry - Roar would be perfect for Willow Smith's version of Annie. How have I only noticed Hard Knock Life in it now?— Adam R (@MrAdamR) August 12, 2013
What do you think? Is the resemblance a little too close for comfort? Sound off below.
