Taking a page from Greek mythology, several artists decided to capture Russian President Vladimir Putin in all his glory to mark the leader’s birthday on Tuesday. The paintings give a Herculean spin to the leader’s foreign policy strategy.

They depict Putin annexing Crimea while decked out in a white toga, and standing up to the United States, among other moves. Across Russia, supporters of the leader held parades and wore T-shirts emblazoned with Putin's face. Meanwhile, the Russian president celebrated his 62nd birthday by taking the day off in a remote Siberian locale.
