A 6-year-old from Massachusetts raised $25,000 for charity by playing 100 holes of golf.

Ryan McGuire wanted to raise the money in memory of his kindergarten classmate, Danny Nickerson, who died in April after battling a rare and inoperable brain cancer, according to The Sun Chronicle.

Ryan's mother, Cheryl, is the program director of Golf Fights Cancer, an organization that encourages people to play golf to raise money for charities. Ryan also asked for donations in lieu of birthday gifts.

Cheryl said that her son does not understand the magnitude of raising so much more than his original $2,500 goal, but he knows he's making a difference.

He played the 100 holes at Norton's MGA Links at Mamantapett with his grandfather, a cancer survivor, serving as his caddy.

Ryan's kindergarten classmates enveloped him in a group hug and followed him as he played several holes of golf, wearing T-shirts that said "Danny's Warriors" on the front and "Ryan, we've got your back" on the back.

Renee Muirhead, who arranged for the class to cheer Ryan on, said Danny is still a huge part of the classroom.

"I just felt like for the children who experienced the loss of Danny, it was a nice way to honor him and keep him in our thoughts and support Ryan," she said.

Both Ryan's and Danny's families were attendance.

"It brings back a lot of good memories and knowing that there's still a lot of people out there that care a lot about him and will do what needs to be done to keep his memory living and make us all happy," Danny's dad said.
