A massive sinkhole opened in the Chinese city of Dongguan on Thursday when a tunnel construction site collapsed.

In an eyewitness video posted to Weibo, the ground started falling away under some buildings, resulting in their edges dangling over the cavern. Apple Daily says a worker at the site died during the tragedy.

Dongguan is in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong. According to census figures from 2011, 8.2 million people live in Dongguan.
