Mulled wine is basically an excuse to drink wine any time of day during the winter months.

There's nothing wrong with that. Bonus: a house that smells so cheery you might attract stray New Year's revelers to your front door.

Put your favorite red wine in your slow cooker (don't break the bank with your wine choice), add aromatics like cinnamon and sliced oranges along with 1/4 to 1/3 cup sugar.

Let the whole thing simmer on low for two hours or until your holiday party guests arrive.

Remember to add 1/4 cup of brandy to round out this sweet, spiced drink.

This warm wine goes down way too easily, but since it's a one pot cleanup, you can look forward to another holiday tradition after a few glasses: the post-lunch nap.

BONUS: You'll go coconuts for this Puerto Rican eggnog
