Previously banished to the mists of time (and the Wii Virtual Console), Super Nintendo classic Super Star Wars will make a surprise return on Nov. 17 with a PlayStation 4 and PS Vita release.

The side-scrolling, run-and-gun adventure follow the events of Episode IV: A New Hope, taking a few liberties in the name of fun. (We're pretty sure Luke Skywalker never fought his way to the top of the Jawa Sandcrawler.) It's not so different from other games released around the same time, but its sharp look and great design quickly established it as a fan favorite.

The PlayStation version doesn't change the core game, but does make some additions in the form of an improved save system, leaderboards and Trophies. This is the first time Super Star Wars has been released for anything other than Nintendo hardware.

It's not the only trip to George Lucas' galaxy far, far away we'll see released this week. Star Wars: Battlefront is out on Nov. 17 as well, reviving the popular online shooter with a new take that bumps up the visual fidelity and pushes for a more authentic sense of scale in every encounter.

Both games live in service to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which hits theaters on Dec. 18.
