LONDON – Fair warning: you'll probably want to have some tissues close to hand before you watch the clip above.

The video shows the last day of Sophia – a terminally ill St Bernard whose owner took her to play in the snow for one final time before she had to be put down.

"We found out two month's ago that Sophia's got bone cancer," explained owner Alyson Page. "She absolutely loves the snow... I've been searching for ideas, just something to make the last time that we've got with her really special, because she's been such a special dog."

Page got in touch with Manchester's Chill Factore – an indoor ski slope with artificial snow – to see if she could take Sophia there for the day. "We got a reply yesterday and it was just before we were due to have her put to sleep, so it was just amazing," said Alyson.

"She's not really shown any interest in anything for a good couple of weeks now, so just to see her with a waggly tail and diving around in the snow... it's just been amazing."

"It's her last day, so it's just been a wonderful end for her," said Page. "I can't even begin to say how much we're going to miss her, but it's made me happy knowing that she's had such a wonderful day today."
