This Time article contains a spectacularly awkward correction

LONDON -- Okay, so this one isn't quite on a par with that time Variety accidentally published an obituary for the very-much-still-alive Terry Gilliam, but in terms of awkward corrections it's definitely up there.

On Thursday, Time published a list of the 100 most-read female writers in college classes. It was a pretty in-depth piece that drew on over a million syllabi from colleges across the world, then aggregated the data to produce a master-list of the top 100.

There was only one problem.

Oh dear.

In fairness, this isn't the first time English author Evelyn Waugh has been mistaken for a woman. Back in 1928 Waugh actually sent a letter in to the Times Literary Supplement after they referred to him as "Miss Waugh" in a review of one of his books.

The Time article was updated not long after it was published, and Waugh was removed from the list. The correction is still there at the very bottom of the page, though.
