Attention, carrot-lovers: Marijuana smugglers just found a new way to pack some of your favorite leafy green's benefits into those carotene-laden root crops.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in Pharr, Texas, seized 2,493 pounds of "alleged marijuana" on Sunday, the agency said. The drugs, worth an estimated $499,000, were apparently stuffed into almost 3,000 "carrot-shaped packages."
The fake carrots were apparently hidden among a shipment of real, fresh carrots en route from Mexico. Enforcement agents said they found the drugs after referring the tractor-trailer carrying the carrots for an imaging scan, which prompted a more thorough inspection using drug-sniffing dogs.
