Prior to working at Mashable, Sergio was a senior editor at The Week, covering business and technology. He was previously a staff writer for The Daily, a contributor and reporting intern for Gawker and the investigative reporting nonprofit, ProPublica, and a reporting intern for the Village Voice.
In 2014, he received the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Digital Journalism Article for “Sex, Lies, and HIV,” a year-long project investigating the criminal prosecution of people with HIV. He also once sued New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, over access to emails concerning Bloomberg’s controversial appointment of publishing executive Cathie Black to run the city’s public school system.
Sergio is from Los Angeles, California. He graduated from New York University with a degree in journalism and psychology in 2010 and is based in Manhattan.
