Adele, who has long cited Amy Winehouse as a musical influence, paid tribute to the late singer on what would have been her 33rd birthday.

"Happy birthday Amy," she wrote, adding an "X" to signify a kiss and attaching a photo of a grinning Winehouse.

Winehouse, famous for soulful tracks like "Rehab" and "Back to Black," died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 after a long struggle with substance abuse. She was 27 years old.

"Amy paved the way for artists like me and made people excited about British music again whilst being fearlessly hilarious and blasé about the whole thing," Adele wrote at the time. "I don’t think she ever realized just how brilliant she was and how important she is, but that just makes her even more charming."

In August of this year, a women-only rehabilitation clinic opened in Winehouse's name.
