Tuesday night was a historic night if you're the type of person who likes to watch politicians eat sh*t.

One such dirt-eater was John Carman, a soon-to-be-former Republican member on the Atlantic County Board of Chosen Freeholders. In January, Carman posted a meme on his Facebook page that read: "Will the woman's protest be over in time for them to cook dinner?"

Last night, Carman lost his seat a woman who was incensed by the joke, Democrat Ashley Bennett.

After the controversy erupted, Carman stood by his meme the way some people stand by issues they really care about, like education or healthcare.

"The women I'm surrounded by, my family, my friends, my colleagues are all strong, confident women, women who are sure of themselves," Carman said at the time. "They didn’t get offended by this."

Bennett, who works as a psychiatric emergency screener, was part of a group of women who aggressively confronted the freeholder at a meeting soon after. One of those women even brought a box of macaroni and cheese along with her and requested that Carman make it -- for her.

Bennett walked out after hearing his response and decided to run for office, joining a surge of other female candidates in New Jersey and across the country. She teamed up with Run for Something, which helps recruits candidates under the age of 35 to run for office.

Last night, Bennett won by a comfortable 1,000 votes out of 14,000 votes cast.

Woman are taking back their country, one dumb meme at a time.
