Starry night photos will remind you just how beautiful the world can be

Having just passed the June solstice, the Australian night sky is at its most beautiful.

With the evenings lasting longer and the crisp winter winds blowing away the clouds, the sky has become a playground and Australia's avid photographers aren't letting it go to waste.

Photographer Bryan Jones spoke with Mashable Australia about the importance of patience when it comes to capturing images at night. 

Getting the photo just right is far from a point-and-shoot exercise. "I find the most difficult thing about shooting the skies during night is trying to get the perfect conditions," Jones explained. "Having little to no wind and clear dark skies is a very difficult thing to time."

"My favourite part about astrophotography is looking up to the stars realising just how big the universe really is, it's very humbling," he said. Jones added that while waiting for longer exposures, he likes to "lay down and stare into the skies."

As a bonus, watch the Aurora Australis as seen from the west coast of Australia in March. May it serve as a reminder that your boss or ex-partner may be a real jerk, but they're just a tiny speck in this ever-expanding universe.
