'Batman vs. Superman' is partnering with Turkish Airlines, to everyone's surprise

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's...a Turkish Airlines product placement.

Warner Bros.' upcoming Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice is taking flight through a promotional campaign with Turkish Airlines that includes a specially themed Boeing 777 outfitted with superhero imagery and a commercial starring Jesse Eisenberg and Ben Affleck.

The partnership was first launched last month but many viewers were first exposed to it when the commercial aired during the Oscars red carpet show on Sunday.

According to the airline, the promotion was born from a pivotal action scene in the movie that takes place on board a Turkish Airlines plane.

The partnership also extends to movie-themed on-board menu items, travel kits and special travel guides for Metropolis and Gotham.

Though Turkish Airlines is usually not the first brand that comes to mind when talking about superheroes, it's not the first time that a Hollywood film has teamed up with an air carrier for a promotional deal. 

Nippon Airways took to the sky last year with an intricate R2-D2 plane for Star Wars: Force Awakens and Air New Zealand decked out a plane with hobbits and filmed a special Middle Earth-themed safety video.
