'Battlefield 1' marches into the trenches of World War I this fall
Battlefield is back, and it's had enough of all these modern warfare hotzones.
Battlefield 1 heads all the way back to the early years of the 20th century, when World War I had most of the planet swept up in armed conflict. It's the first time the series has tapped this particular time period.

The initial reveal focuses exclusively on the game's competitive multiplayer mode, which supports up to 64 players in various locations -- including the deserts of Arabia, the Italian alps and metropolitan France.
At first glance, it certainly looks like the Battlefield we know, only with more rudimentary tools of war. The game features the same ground battles, aerial dogfights and ship-to-shore engagements that fans have come to expect.
There's not much to say about the campaign at the moment, but that's typical for Battlefield. Developer DICE tends to focus on multiplayer initially, since that's the type of play the earlier games were built around.
Expect to learn more in the run-up to June's E3 trade show. Battlefield 1 comes to PC (via Origin), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Oct. 21.
