O Canada! it's a big day, eh?

To celebrate Canada Day 2017, which marks 150 years since the country's founding on July 1, 1867, please allow us to reminisce fondly on Justin Trudeau's year in the spotlight.

In the midst of America's own political dumpster fire, Canada's prime minister has captured hearts and inspired joy with his charming demeanor and undeniably adorable antics. We thank him for this.

Of course, we're aware that some of Trudeau's actions may also be not-so-coincidentally great photo opps, and there's no denying he's had some major Tru-don't moments, like the time he called Fidel Castro a "remarkable leader."

His kind blue eyes — no matter how kind, or how blue — will not distract us from the fact that he is a politician.

But compared to Trump? Trudeau is a freakin' dream.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy some of the most glorious Trudeau distractions of 2017.

That time he heavily considered NOT shaking Trump's hand

Look at that face! You can almost ~see~ the wheels turning as he searches for some way out of this trap. For this glorious split second, we were all Trudeau.

His candlelit dates with other politicians *swoon*

Sharing a classy table with German chancellor Angela Merkel? A casual date night with his close personal bro Barack Obama? Outstanding. We needed these photos.

When he celebrated women the right way

Trudeau's International Women's Day statement was a thoughtful display of respect and support for women. In comparison, Trump's two tweets simply failed.

That time he invited Ivanka Trump to a play about welcoming foreigners

Oh, the beautiful irony.

When he challenged a Friends character to a rematch

Yes, apparently Matthew Perry beat up Justin Trudeau when they were in elementary school. But Trudeau is stronger now and ready for a rematch, Chandler.

When he smoldered in this firefighter jacket

This image is self-explanatory.

His prom pose

#TBT to the time Justin Trudeau casually jogged past some teens heading to prom and made their selfie dreams come true.

That time he built a blanket fort with a child

Come ON, people. Can you even stand these photos of Trudeau and 5-year-old Bella, who won the CBC Kids' "Prime Minister for a Day" contest? We can't. And don't forget about him hugging that unicorn puppet.

His bromance with Emmanuel Macron

A relationship so pure you forget about all the troubles in the world for a moment...

His socks, always

Thank you for always distracting the world with your colorful ankle fabric, Jus.

When he celebrated Pride like a freaking champ

Please just look at how excited this man is for Pride. America — whose president failed to even proclaim June National Pride Month — is jealous.

Thank you, Trudeau, for not being the worst politician. And Happy Canada Day.
