Anyone who watched '90s horror classic Candyman knows that the one thing you don't do is say Candyman's name five times. Unless, of course, you want to summon a vengeful, hook-handed ghost who wants to kill you.

With the sequel to Candyman coming out this year, producer and screenwriter Jordan Peele asked Twitter to tempt fate by tweeting #Candyman five times in one post to reveal a sneak peek of the soon-to-be-released trailer.

Once summoned, the Candyman twitter account heeds the call by responding with a six second teaser.

The teaser gives fans a glimpse of the 2020 Candyman's infamous hook hand in a velvet-lined case, followed by the hook emerging from a sleeve.

Because Candyman (2020) is a "legacyquel" in the vein of Halloween (2018), it will disregard the 1992 Candyman's two sequels to serve as a direct followup to the original. Actor Tony Todd, who played Candyman in all three extant movies, will return to the role, which makes this teaser a potential look at Todd donning the hook for the first time in 20 years.

Bringing Todd back and using Twitter to "summon" Candyman are both effective choices on behalf of Candyman's development since the legend of Candyman revolves around the ghost of a lynching victim perpetuating the memory of his murder by instilling fear in later generations. Tony Todd's Candyman would find a way to update his murderous MO for the internet age, because his legacy is dependent on finding more victims.

Plenty of movies pull Twitter stunts like this, but leave it to Jordan Peele to go full galaxy brain on Candyman before the trailer even drops. Do you dare tweet his name?

The new Candyman, directed by Nia DaCosta, arrives in theaters June 12.
