Remember scrounging together pocket money to watch something at the movies on Tuesday?

Well, it appears that the ancient tradition of cheap tickets, affectionately known as Tight-Arse Tuesdays, is going to be much harder to find at cinemas in Australia. Back in the good ol' days, you could score tickets to a flick for a measly A$7.50. In recent years, it has hit a high of A$13.

In a jerk move for all those people living on the cheap, the major Austalian cinema chain Village Cinemas has announced they'll be changing the long-running promotion from Apr. 26, reserving the cheap seats for those who've signed up for their loyalty program, Village Movie Club.

In other words, the days are over of wandering anonymously into your local cinema on a Tuesday to see something terrible like Batman vs Superman for the bargain price of $13. Now, you'll be asked to hand over your email in exchange for the discount tickets.

Over at Hoyts, they've kept a similar deal intact -- Super Tuesday -- sans personal data collection, which is the way it absolutely should be.

Village Cinemas promises on their website that it'll take less than 20 seconds to sign-up to its club program, but we know that is a lifetime in the age of short attention spans.

It's a sign of the times when companies want your data to send you "exciting offers" a.k.a. 478 newsletters a day that you'll never read, all in exchange for a few bucks off. It'll be interesting to see how the change flies with a less tech-savvy crowd, such as your 93-year-old granny.

In the meantime, we've luckily kept a host of email addresses for potential spam, such as [email protected] or [email protected]. Hello, spam Tuesdays.
