While many of us can't stomach public displays of affections, a Chinese high school in Henan has taken extreme measures to prevent its students from "feeding each other" -- an affectionate activity that young couples in China partake in.

According to Chinese media outlets, the teachers of Ruyang Experimental High School had enough of its students developing romantic relationships in school and flaunting them, that they decided to segregate the cafeteria so male and female students aren't allowed to sit together during recess.

The school's principal, Li Xinnian, told Dahe Daily the rules were implemented last week to deter students from "food flirting" and influencing each other.

"Puppy love in high school distracts students from their studies, and the school is taking action to prevent such relationships and put an end to feeding each other in the cafeteria," said Li.

Pictures that appeared on Weibo show a red line marked on the ground with signs indicating where the boys and girls have to sit. Students are also not allowed to change their assigned seats.

The school even went as far as to place cafeteria monitors to patrol the area and report any students who were in violation of the new rule.

Students who get caught will receive a lecture. Teachers assured students and concerned parents that the school will not resort to public shaming -- a common punishment in Chinese schools.

According to Li, the results of these new rules have been positive.

"We've seen a sharp decrease in mixed seating, and no one has been feeding each other."
