The villagers of Lianshan Mountain in Guangdong, China, might have stumbled onto a profitable business venture -- selling bags of fresh mountain air to urban city dwellers.

With China's pollution problems showing no signs of easing, Chinese people living in smog-shrouded cities are escaping to remote areas for a breath of fresh air.

In the last week, most of the cities in the Guangdong province have been blanketed with smog, with little to no visibility.

With a sudden influx of tourists at Lianshan Mountain, which sits 4,600 feet above sea level and has the largest forest coverage in the region, villagers are bagging the coveted air and selling each bag for 10 to 30 yuan ($1.50 - $4.50), reported Zenghua News.

Pictures taken at the scene of the pop-up stalls show villagers garbed in traditional costumes touting bags of air with signs that say "buying air equals buying health" and "air without industrial pollution."

Besides selling bagged air, the villagers were also retailing fresh local produce such as bamboo shoots and mushrooms.

According to local news outlets, many tourists patronised the stalls and were seen bargaining for better deals.
