Chris Cornell, the iconic voice behind Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog, has died at age 52. The singer had been on tour with Soundgarden in Detroit.
In a statement to the AP, Cornell's rep Brian Bumbery called the death “sudden and unexpected.” He later told CNN that Cornell's wife Vicky and family "were shocked to learn of his sudden and unexpected passing." In an emailed statement, the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said it had determined that Cornell died by suicide.
Cornell's wife and family "would like to thank his fans for their continuous love and loyalty and ask that their privacy be respected at this time," Bumbery said.
