Who knew memes could cause this much damage?

One tiger statue in front of an Indonesia military base has been destroyed after it became the butt of jokes online.

The tiger sat in front of the Siliwangi Military Command in the province of Cisewu.

I mean, just look at it.

It wasn't long before the term #MacanCisewu, or Cisewu tiger, started trending.

Of course, people had to mention Harambe.

On Monday, military officials decided they had enough, and demolished the statue with chisels.

The Commander of the military base told the BBC that the statue had been made a "long time ago" in Cisewu.

"Every unit has their own decision on how the statue was made, but sometimes the artist was not that good," said Siliwangi military commander Maj Gen Herindra.

The moral of this story? People are savage.
