The world can be a freaky place. The world of museum curators, however, is apparently downright terrifying.

That much was made clear Friday when whoever had control of the Yorkshire Museum's Twitter account kicked off a creepy-curator challenge. The UK museum claims to house "some of Britain’s finest archaeological treasures," but this #CURATORBATTLE called for something else.

"Today's theme, chosen by you, is #CreepiestObject," wrote the museum's hashtag-happy social media person. "We're kicking things off with this 3rd/4th century hair bun from the burial of a #Roman lady, still with the jet pins in place... CAN YOU BEAT IT?"

We both delight and regret, dear reader, to inform you that yes someone most definitely beat it. In fact, many someones did.

Take, for example, this severed leg with its own legs.

Not freaky enough? How about this haunted children's toy that "MOVES ON ITS OWN"?

OK, but wait. Because this screaming mermaid is definitely coming for your dreams.

Oh yeah, and this demon bear drinking — idk maybe the souls of all who wronged it? — is pretty off-putting as well.

At the moment, we're feeling a bit like the below "sheep": trapped in a box and wondering what the hell is going on.

Let's take a closer look.

But hey, at least we'll always have the company of children.

Huh. Never mind.
