French Fries. Chips. Pomme Frites. Whatever you call them, few of us can stop at just one fistful.

While you may know them as a savoury food item, those days are long gone. Groundbreaking chefs out there are pushing the envelope, helping make the potato a sweet and salty combination you'd consider having for dessert.

Not quite convinced? Here are a few ways you can use fries to cure a sweet tooth, with Australia leading the pack in this brave new world.

These "Blame Canada" fries are like poutine, but for dessert

Slightly influenced by Canada's classic poutine dish, Bar Luca from Sydney, Australia has put together their "Blame FriesCream" Fries, loaded with ice cream, salted smokey caramel sauce, maple bacon and chocolate -- all on a bed of fries, of course.

Better eat it fast before the ice cream melts.

Feel a bit fancy with truffle soft serve and thick cut fries

File this under luxury pleasures. From Devon on Danks café, also in Sydney, Australia, it's truffle soft serve ice cream with chips -- served together, forever.

Nutella and sweet potato fries: Game over

Are we done yet? Sugarshack Diner from Adelaide, Australia have been serving up these utterly stupendous Nutella and sweet potato fries. Because just one of a good thing isn't enough.

McChoco Potato: Only in Japan

You'll have to travel to Japan to get this bizarre combination of fries and chocolate sauce (white and dark), but the McChoco Potato from McDonald's could be the combination of your dreams. The name is utterly ridiculous, too.

If it's all too much, stick to a classic soft serve and french fries

"Does that even taste good?" Yes. It does.

You might get weird looks, but there is no simpler pleasure than a dipping fast food french fries into a dirt cheap soft serve ice cream. The original and the best.
