'Destiny' Halloween event finally puts your raisins to good use

The lamest Halloween treat of all -- raisins -- is crucial to solving one of the oldest 'Destiny' mysteries.

Eris Morn is the jerk that hands out raisins at Halloween, but Destiny fans got a surprise from her in the 2016 edition of the "Festival of the Lost" Halloween event: those raisins are good for something. Finally.

Even better, Eris' "Box of Raisins" Halloween treat ties into a mystery that Destiny players have been wondering about since Year 1. Finally, we know how to obtain the "Superblack" shader.

Here's how it works: visit the Tower and run through the first Festival of the Lost quest, in which you visit the Tower's vendors and collect candy from them. When you swing by to chat with Eris, she'll hand you a box of raisins.

Take your container of dried grapes over to the Speaker and fork it over to him, along with 25 Motes of Light. In exchange. the speaker will hand you... Ascendant Raisins (a nod to a now-defunct crafting material from Destiny Year 1).

Note that if you collected raising from Eris during the 2015 event and hung onto them all this time, you can skip the first steps and save your motes. Any year-old box of raisins have automatically transformed into Ascendant Raisins.

Patience pays off sometimes, apparently.

Once you've got your fancy raisins, it's time for a whirlwind tour of the Tower. You won't see objective markers for any of these, but don't worry. That's working-as-intended.

First, head to Commander Zavala in the Vanguard chamber. Interact with him and you'll trade your Ascendant Raisins in for Salted Sweets.

Next, scurry over to Master Rahool, the Cryptarch. He'll happily accept your Salted Sweets and give you a Winged Chew in return.

Your next stop is Amanda Holliday, the ships and Sparrows vendor. She digs on Winged Chew, and she'll hand you a Splice Drop if you give it up.

Now run back to the Vanguard chamber and chat with Cayde-6. He wants your Splice Drop, and he'll give you some Unchocolate in return.

Finally, truck it on over to Eris, the one who started this whole mess. She's a fan of Unchocolate, and she'll gift you a Bag of Treats in exchange.

That's it. Crack open the Bag of Treats (find it in your inventory) to receive a Piece of Celery (slightly wilted, sadly) and the Superblack shader.

A quick Destiny history lesson: Superblack has been kicking around in the Destiny database since the game's first year in existence. No one's ever been able to obtain it -- rumors had suggested it was tied to headshots in the Crucible or some archaic, easter egg-y quest from the Dead Orbit faction.

Turns out, they were all wrong. Superblack hasn't been obtainable until now, from this Festival of the Lost mini-quest for raisins, candy and celery. Get on it before the event ends and get your nifty new shader.

If you'd rather follow the above steps using video as your guide, see the quest in full in the clip up top.
