Not even cord-cutters can escape the cable companies routine price increases.

AT&T is informing customers and confirmed to Mashable, that DirecTV Now will soon cost an extra $5 a month no matter the plan:

  • Live a Little $35 to $40 a month

  • Just Right $45 to $50 a month

  • Go Big $60 to $65 a month

  • Gotta Have It $70 to $75 a month

New customers will see the price increase on July 26, 2018, while current customers will receive the price increase at different times, depending on their respective billing cycles.

Channel lineups are staying the same, and you still get 20 hours of "True Cloud DVR" at no extra cost.

An AT&T spokesperson confirmed the change to Mashable. “In the 18 months since our launch, we have continued to evolve our DIRECTV NOW products to serve this new customer set and compare favorably with our competitors. To continue delivering the best possible streaming experience for both new and existing customers, we’re bringing the cost of this service in line with the market — which starts at a $40 price point.”

Up until now, DirecTV Now was slightly undercutting PlayStation Vue and YouTube TV. These services all start at $40 a month now. AT&T is not the only one making changes though; Sling TV's Orange package is $5 more at $25 a month, as of last week. You can, however, still get Sling TV Blue and Orange together for $40 a month.

These price increases arrive shortly after the demise of Net Neutrality and the closing of the AT&T Time Warner acquisition. The wireless carrier spent $85.4 billion on the purchase, so this small hike might be a way to increase revenue.

For those who don't wish to stick with the service at a higher price, AT&T Watch TV is $15 a month or free with the Unlimited & More and Unlimited & More Premium plans. You get 30 channels and on-demand content, but no sports for a cheap monthly bill.

Only time will tell if AT&T chooses to increase the price of Watch TV, though.
