As news of the Brussels terror attacks unfolded Tuesday, Donald Trump once again called  for "closing up" the U.S. borders.

"Look at Brussels. Brussels was a beautiful city, a beautiful place... Now it's a disaster city, a total disaster," Trump told Fox News on Tuesday morning. "We have to be very careful in the U.S. We have to be very, very vigilant as to who we let into this country."

In interviews on Fox News and NBC, Trump repeatedly suggested that Belgium had declined over the last few decades, saying Brussels was an "armed camp" even before Tuesday's attacks.

"I know Brussels well, and it is a total mess. It is a city that used to be one of the finest, one of the most beautiful and one of the safest cities in the world and now it's a catastrophic, very dangerous city."

This is not the first time that Trump has been outspoken about the Belgian capital. Earlier this year, he lamented Belgium's demise, saying that living there was like "living in a hellhole right now."

Trump's comments rallied Belgians on Twitter to lash out at Trump, using the hashtag #hellhole.

In both interviews, Trump said he saw no end to these incidents of violence.

"This is a story that seems to be more and more happening," he said. "You're going to see things happening in Paris. You see what's happening in London and other cities, and it's really not very pretty to watch."

Trump told NBC's Today that if he had been president, he would have been "very tough on the boarders" and "would not be allowing certain people to come into this country without documentation."

He also said that authorities should be able to do "whatever they have to do," including waterboarding, to obtain information from Salah Abdeslam, the suspect in the Nov. 13 terrorist attacks in Paris.

"Waterboarding would be fine, and if they could expand the laws, I would do a lot more than waterboarding," Trump said. "I am in the camp where you have to get the information and you have to get it rapidly."
